When is the best time to send an invitation email to respondents? During the week or the weekend? To maximize the response rate, should you avoid programming a study during a holiday period?

According to day of the week

  • Monday: avoid because of the many company meetings held on this day
  • Tuesday: favorable for B2B and B2C
  • Wednesday: in spite of the school attendance reform in France, this is still a day for mothers and children; teachers are more available
  • Thursday: favorable for B2B and B2C
  • Friday: very favorable for B2C because the weekend enables continuing the field study, but avoid for B2B

Since Internet has become increasingly mobile, it is curious to note that the highest response rates correspond to vacation periods. First observed in 2010, this inversion continues year after year:

Tip

Since the number of smartphones and tablets is constantly growing,
publication date is becoming less crucial. With larger response rates
during vacations, online studies are now possible in August.

Survey duration

Theoretically, a survey should not last longer than seven days, even if not all respondent profile types are available and even if Internet users are increasingly connected. Three- or four-day studies are often made on very homogeneous groups.

Reminder

A maximum of two relaunches should be sent following the initial launch: 3-4 days after the launch for the first reminder and 6-8 days after for the second. The relaunch text should be different from the original invitation email, with a message focusing on:

  • Importance of the response
  • Benefit of the survey (B2C)
  • Feedback to be given in exchange (B2B)
  • Humor
  • Seriousness of your company
